This is Big Brian from blackopstoys.com here with the following mini review of the new Metal Boss figure.
I know that many of you have been waiting for a Metal Gear Solid figure Snake figure that was actually solid (there is a pun there). Since Medicom released their versions there has not been another made (Link). The Medicom version in my opinion was great for any fan of the game. However the 1/6 world has come along way since 2008 when it was released.
Now we bring you a figure that is manufactured by INFLAMES and Head Play. INFLAMES we have never heard of before, but Head Play has been made famous for their line of 1/6 scale action figure heads.
Starting off with the Head and body we find that it is of great quality. I personally find it to be awesome. It sits on a Hot Toys style neck connector and fits great on the body. The bandana on the head is great and made of cloth with a wire inside, which allows a person to pose it as if the wind is blowing. The detail on the head is great and really will be a great addition to anyone who want to make a custom Snake or make a Patrick Swayze figure. The body is Hot Toys quality. It is similar to a True Type or a Crazy Dummy body. Pegs for both the feet and the two sets of hands.
Next we will move on to the uniforms. We are lucky enough to get three sets here. One wetsuit, one Vietnam style bdu set, and one urban camo bdu set from the game. The fact that you make your favorite style from the game is so cool. Not enough figures now days give you this option. I love that you have a choice in the matter as a customer. The wetsuit is good. It is made from a leather style flat black material and is really going to be a sought after piece in my humble opinion. Not enough of these were made to go around for navy seal bashes. It will also work on a futuristic bash. The Vietnam style bdu set is really good. Again not enough of these high quality bdu’s were made for the Vietnam kitbasher. It is right up there with the Hot Toys uniforms that came on the Platoon movie figures. The color is a little darker but the quality is there. My favorite of the uniforms is the urban style camo bdu. It is off white with specs of grey and green. I love bashing future soldiers so this is going to be one that I use a couple of times over for my figures. The belt holes are good and accurate on both uniforms and the stitching on everything is top notch. All the clothing fits well on the base figure and will work again with any Hot Toys True Type figure, or anything else of that size and nature. The boots complete the uniform sets and are the quality of the Vietnam jungle boots from ACE. The sole is great and color and style hits the mark. These look to be sized better than the Hot Toys Vietnam style boots. The foot fits in well and these are going to be a hard to find piece and soon as people catch wind of them. The figure also comes with a knee pad and two shoulder pads to round out the uniforms category. They are made of leather type material and are awesome. They would make a great addition to any army of 2 bash.
The gear is freaking amazing. The four pouches, two canteen pouches, and butt-pack are great. They open and close and are made of cloth. The buckles on the back of each pouch (that attach them to the belt) are made of metal. These remind me of the ones made from Soldier Story from their Macv-Sog figure (Link). They again will be a worthy asset for any Vietnam style kitbash. You get two small pouches (20 round) which look to be for an M-16/M-4. You also get two larger pouches (30 round) which could be used for the same type of ammo or anything else. The detail is really awesome. The canteen pouches open with Velcro and the micro pocket on the side of each pouch actually opens. The canteens themselves have a top that opens as well. I can’t say enough about this set as these pouches, metal rivet belt, and Harness set will do nothing but increase in value and be the mark for other companies to reproduce. Yes the quality is that good.
When it comes to weapons used in the game there are a huge variety. This figure comes with an HK .45 pistol with a moving slide and removable silencer and laser sight. The pistol is awesome and really is right up there with the Dragon version that everyone loves. The holster is also a good piece that fits all pistol accessories. The one thing missing is a strap to connect it to the belt. This is something that any good customizer should be able to put on NO PROBLEM.
The figure also comes with a standard issue M-16 from Vietnam. It looks to be almost identical to the Hot Toys Chris Taylor version. My only complaint here is that it does not come with a 3 prong barrel as everyone would have loved to see. Not sure what exact barrel was used in the game as the detail on this is hard to see. Anyone who is a fan of the M-16 from Hot Toys should definitely be fine with this.
Snake comes with two knife sets. One knife is the standard Vietnam style with a real leather sheath. The other is a modern knife with a plastic sheath. Both knives are good. As a 1/6 scale knife collector I will gladly add these to my collection and be glad I did.
Hands down this is one of the best figures I have seen. Take Metal Gear Solid out of the picture and you still have one amazing figure with amazing gear. Absolutely awesome kitbash potential.
On Mike Skram’s scale I would give this figure a 5 out of 5 every time. The price point is going to be around $150 mark and that is fair for this item. He should in time be highly sought after. If INFLAMES continues on this route they will be another company that is raising the bar to the level of Hot Toys quality.
Check out the actual items and photos here on our website (Link). If you click on the items you can see the actual photos we took and look at the detail. Again this is a simply amazing figure. Right now it is a pre-order item, but it should be here mid October and start shipping then.
Thank,
Brian
